Automobile (or Automotive) engineering is a branch of engineering that studies designing, manufacturing, and automobiles, including bus, car, jeep, truck, tractor, scooter, motorcycle. In 1769, French engineer Captain Nicholas Cugnot built the first road vehicle. The first motor car appeared in India in 1897, after which the automobile industry is flourishing and rising rapidly in India. Due to the demand and passion for vehicles, automobile engineers have many opportunities in India and abroad.

The following are the opportunities available for automobile engineers in various fields:
Design Engineer:Design engineers are responsible for designing and producing visual interpretations of automobiles and their components using computer-aided design packages.
Production Engineer: Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for ensuring proper production of the automotive components or complete vehicles.
Maintenance Engineer: An Automobile Maintenance Engineer exercises general supervision over mechanics and other workers in the workshop, factory, or garage.
Performance Engineer: Performance engineer measure and testability of vehicles to perform in various conditions.
Emission Researcher:Emission Researcher tests the measurement of vehicle emissions, including hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and evaporative emissions.
Safety Engineers: Safety Engineers performs an assessment of various crash scenarios and their impact on the vehicle occupants.
Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) Engineer:The NVH engineer works either to eliminate bad NVH or change the “bad NVH” into good i.e., exhaust tones.
Researcher: An Automobile engineer can also work as a researcher in any automobile company.
